The Bird/Woman imprisoned in this cell represents women who have fled from their homelands as victims of rape, violence and oppression.
On entering this country they are held in detention centres which are little better than prisons in our current penal system.
They experience guards on constant watch, little privacy, locked doors, roll calls and high fence barriers.
The women arrive traumatised and have a long wait to learn of their status in this country.
My walks across fields, beaches and streets to collect the hundreds of feathers needed to gave the Bird/Woman her form and meaning are in stark contrast to her existence.
